Next Meeting: Sat., June 30, 2018,
Coffee at 9:00 AM
I hope that your Memorial Day was both restful and meaningful. It is always a good thing to stop, for a moment, and remember those who sacrificed themselves for our freedoms. As Americans and Masons we owe them so much.
For our next stated communication on 30 June, we have a number of treats! First, we will have a visit and presentation by the Civil War Lodge of Research, #1865 (CWLR). Our theme this meeting will be to framework another form of Masonic research – and CWLR will start by presenting the history of the CWLR, speak about the normal weekend/meeting day routine and talk about including some of the locations they as a Lodge have visited. They will give a short talk about the Masonic events at St. Francisville (Louisiana), sometimes referred to as, "The Day the War Stopped." They will also provide information about their next meetings in July and Oct.
We will follow this with a discussion about how we might generate more research – on all topics with Masonic links – in our Blue Lodges and among the brethren. Please give it some thought over the coming weeks and bring your ideas for how the Brothers of two Research Lodges can strengthen our craft here in Virginia!
Second, as it is the beginning of summer (and our one summertime meeting), I invite you all to come in relaxed or casual attire. As you may know, Masonic Districts 1A and 54 are holding a joint picnic at Elmer Timberman Lodge in Annandale immediately following our meeting – so come to the meeting dressed for the picnic and go there directly after to enjoy some sun, fellowship and great food! For those who can’t make the picnic, we will have light refreshment at 9am before the meeting and we will still have lunch after (12 noon) – so never fear, we have you covered!!
As always, we will meet on Saturday, 30 June at 10:00 am in the North Lodge Room of the George Washington Masonic Memorial. Please come out and be a part of strengthening our Fraternity. I look forward to seeing you there!
Respectfully and Fraternally,
Marc Allen Hone
